1. Hierarchies are a common facet of life so give yourself an advantage with good posture: hold your head high and strike the posture of a winner. This come sfro the Norwegian zoologist Ebbe who was studying barnyard chickens in the 1920s when he noticed that there was a clear hierarchy among these birds.
2. Care for yourself with the same tenderness you would a loved one. Rather than only doing what makes you happy, try to do what is best for you.
3. The wrong companions can drag you down, so choose your friends wisely (Supportive and positive friends). They will want what's best for you; so they'll encourage you to snap out of wallowing and get back on track.
4. Progress is made by comparing yourself to your past achievements, not to others. Comparing current results to past ones will also keep you moving forward. When checking in on your progress, think of yourself as a home inspector by looking at things from top to bottom and categorizing every problem.
5. It is parent's duty to raise a responsible and kind child, not just a friend. Three key methods for good parenting:
- Limit the rules with basic, easy to understand principles.
- Minimum necessary force (appropriate punishments)
- Come in pairs between father and mother
6. You should take responsibility for your own life, not blame others for our lot in life.
7. Sacrifice can be a meaningful act and we should seek meaning over immediate pleasures. (Like Adam and Eve in secret garden; lotus flower at the bottom of a lake). Stick with something and be ready to make sacrifices to reach your goal, and you will be rewarded.
8. We should strive toward truthful living (Truth to yourself, truth to the context, truth to the reality)
9. Conversations are an opportunity to learn and grow, not compete so active listening. Listen and then summarize or recap out loud.
10. Use clear and precise language to explain and talk to others for the easier understanding.
11. There are bad and oppressive men but avoid suppressing human nature.
12. Life is hard and full of sorrow so it's important to celebrate the small joys in life. You will embrace life and appreciate every good thing that comes your way.
